First released in 2009, Angry Birds has become a global phenomenon, with over four billion downloads worldwide. The game's simple premise, in which players launch birds at structures to defeat pigs, has captivated audiences for over a decade.

However, with the rise of new mobile games and changing consumer preferences, Rovio Entertainment, the developers of Angry Birds, have decided to delist the classic version of the game from the Google Play store. This means that the game will no longer be available for download on Android devices.

The initial iOS version of the game, which soft launched in Finland on December 1, 2009 and released internationally 10 days later, included a single episode entitled "Poached Eggs" which contained three themed chapters, each with 21 levels. From time to time, Rovio has released free upgrades that include additional content, such as new levels, new in-game objects and even new birds. As updates have been released, they have been incorporated into the game's full version offered for download from each platform's application store.[29]

Back in 2019, mobile developer Rovio Entertainment removed two of its iconic games, Angry Birds Classic and Angry Birds Seasons from app stores. With the fast-moving pace of technology, they chose to release follow-ups rather than continuously update the original games. Of course, many fans who fell in love with the original wanted that version of the game back and now, Rovio Entertainment is answering the call. Angry Birds Classic is once again available to download and play, and as an original player I can confirm: it's addictive, nostalgic fun.

Back in the days before practically every mobile game was a free-to-play, ad- and microtransaction-laden sinkhole, Rovio found years of viral success selling paid downloads of Angry Birds to tens of millions of smartphone users. Today, though, the company is delisting the last "pay upfront" version of the game from mobile app stores because of what it says is a "negative impact" on the more lucrative free-to-play titles in the franchise.

Rovio, i have seen that all of your angry birds games from 2009-2014 have been removed from the app store and google play,I cant explain my sadness that one of my favourite childhood franchises has had all of its original games wiped out except two which are angry birds transformers, friends, and bad piggies i bought a ipad for these games since my tablet broke when I set it up and went to the app store to download these games but when i searched angry birds all i got where candy crush-bubble shooting rip offs of other popular mobile games,I almost lost it when i found out that the original games where gone. You have had a uproar in your fanbase with people asking left and right for you to bring back the old angry birds games, you know what i am saying is true and if you are reading this please put the old games up for download again even if i had to pay 1 for them each i honestly wouldn't mind i would just love to play the old games again as the angry birds games have been such a big part of my childhood and the fact i cant play them anymore just really saddens me recently i have been finding a lot of old angry birds stuff in my local Whsmith and i buy them all as soon as I see, them my mother says im "obsessed with angry birds" i totally agree but im obsessed with the old angry birds and not the new movie design ones the movies are ok but you need to please go back to making some old design angry birds games or cartoons,if you have problems with the licencing for angry birds star wars and rio please work out something with disney for star wars since they own lucasfilm now and work out something with blue sky studios.here is the list I would like to see return

Rovio Entertainment unleashed Angry Birds on December 11, 2009, almost a year and a half after Apple created the App Store. The premise was simple: hungry pigs would steal eggs from birds, and those birds would get angry enough to take their eggs back. As the player, you would help the birds out, slingshotting them to destroy the pigs and collect points and stars.

Ironically, the late Steve Jobs didn't think developers needed a dedicated way to write software for iPhone when it was first released back in 2007. The reversal of that decision a year later unleashed nothing short of a revolution in both the technology and the way it's sold. It's less than 5 years later and 50 billion app downloads are days away. Those birds might not want to admit it, but they have a lot to smile about.

According to the announcement, Rovio Classics: Angry Birds will still be playable on devices where it has already been downloaded, even after it is delisted from Google Play. So if you're a fan of the game, you might want to download it and confirm its functionality before it is removed from the app store.

Angry Birds is one of the old classics of mobile gaming. The physics-based casual game released all the way back in 2009 and the collective series has clocked over three billion downloads in its history. There are numerous games, movies, and merchandise that sprang from the IP in the interim years.

The impact on Rovio was all too clear. Angry Birds was the sixth most downloaded game of 2013, and no entry in the series has appeared in the top ten since. It ventured into branded spin-offs, tapping into IP such as Star Wars and Transformers, and brought the birds into new genres such as racing, RPGs, pinball and (inevitably) match-three. But none of these matched the success of the original game.

It has been a decade of hard lessons learned. Angry Birds took off faster than Rovio could have anticipated and staying ahead of that momentum has been a challenge. Yet the series continues to show it's resilience, while App Annie reports it only ranks at No.32 in the list of 2019's most popular mobile franchises in terms of revenue, the combination of all its games place it at No.1 in terms of downloads. The birds' popularity continues, and Levoranta believes this underlines the biggest lesson Rovio has learned: "Focus on what you are doing and try to be the best at it."
